After scouring Pinterest for some Lego party inspiration, I came across the sweet idea of making chocolate candy shaped Lego bricks and mini figures! How cute to place on top of the cupcakes and add to the favor bags?
I was able to find them here on Amazon and they came in two days with our Prime membership! These are great for not only making chocolate, but you can make ice cubes, crayons, jello....the list goes on! How fun!
I picked up 3 bags of colored chocolates from the craft store in dark green, dark blue and red and got to it.
I melted a half bag of chocolate in a microwave safe bowl in 30 second increments by taking the bowl out, stirring and then heating up again. I did this maybe two or three times for each bowl. Once all melted I carefully spooned the melted chocolate into the mold. You can certainly use a pastry bag or a plastic bag and snip off the end for less mess but I didn't have either and this worked well.
Be warned, the mini figure mold is not as deep as the bricks and only needs a little bit of chocolate. We had some overflow but they still came out fine with the end.
After each one was full, give the mold a light shake to evenly distribute the chocolate and then lightly tap it on the counter to release any bubbles. Then place the mold in the freeze for at least 15 minutes. I was surprised at how easily they popped out of the molds.
Resist the urge to eat a few! I used these as cupcake toppers and then placed a few in the party favor bags. I did store them in the refrigerator until party day.
