Today is the first of spring! Who is ready to pack up the snow boots and jackets? I know I am! My kids always get excited for spring. For them it means afternoons playing outside, soccer, baseball and that summer is just around the corner!
We decided to have some fun this year and I got them involved in a few spring crafts! They are all easy enough for them to do on their own and kept them occupied for a little bit. A few household items and a quick trip to the craft store and you can do the same!
Emma had painted this wooden birdhouse in our last Girl Scout meeting and she has been asking pretty much every day to hang it outside. It's honestly been super cold and snowy but today we finally did get out there and hang it! Most craft stores carry them. We found ours at MIchaels for $1. Pick up some washable paints too and you are set!
I didn't have any birdseed on hand but had seen on Pinterest a few ideas for bird feeders using Cheerios. I had some twine and tied a knot at one end for the kids. Reid loved stringing them on and it kept him busy for a bit! After he was done, I just tied the two ends together.
Lastly, we can't watch out for the birds without binoculars! I had an empty paper towel roll and cut it in half. You can also use a toilet paper roll. You can color or paint the rolls, wrap them with scrapbook paper or use washi tape. I had a roll leftover from Valentine's Day so we used that. Not super boyish, but he didn't seem to mind. This did require my help. After we were finished I used a hole punch and punched a hole on each side. Then a created a strap out of a piece of ribbon.
After we were done, we wasted no time hanging the birdhouse and feeder.
We shall see if the birds for visit. For now Reid had a fun time with his new binoculars! Happy Spring!!!!
