I'm hoping by now, your Christmas decorations are long gone! I always find this to be a funky time of year for outdoor decor. You can't really string lights and hang a Christmas wreath up and it is still too early for flowers. But for me, if I put nothing on our front porch, it just looks bare and lonely. I still want to welcome our guests but in a seasonal way.
In early December, I always hit up Home Depot for two evergreen trees! They fit perfectly in my olive bucket planters and definitely add some seasonal decor to the porch. The best part is, we plant them in the spring! I wrap some burlap around the bottoms to protect them from the cold winter winds and it adds a bit of rustic charm to our porch.
My boxwood wreaths are a must every year and I score them at Trader Joe's for $10 each. We have 4 large windows on the porch that I hang them from with red and white striped ribbon during the holidays. Typically, I throw them away and maybe save 1 or 2 to bring indoors but they usually die pretty quickly. This year, I decided to savor them as long as I could and simply changed out the ribbon to a more neutral black and white stripe! They are still hanging in there and I just may keep them up as long as I can!
Lastly, I scored this cute galvanized lanterns at Ikea right before Thanksgiving! I was looking for some nice, large lanterns for our porch for awhile and I couldn't beat the price on these!
With a few simple touches, it's easy to add some seasonal decor to your front porch for the winter. Who else is ready for spring though? I definitely am!
