Since we literally just moved in 6 weeks ago and unfortunately missed planting season, our landscaping is basically nothing at our new house. No trees or shrubs to put pretty twinkle lights on for the holiday season. And since we just finished building and painting the porch, I couldn't bear adding any nail holes to all our nice freshly painted wood posts and railings. So...I went light on outdoor decorations this year and kept it simple.
I picked up two of these evergreen shrubs up at Home Depot with intent to dress them up a bit for our front porch for the holidays AND plant in the spring so we can get a head start on landscaping! I wasn't a fan of the plastic red bow or the plastic container and knew with some creativity I could make these pretty and simple for our porch!
I grabbed about 1.5 yards of natural burlap fabric and a wide red burlap ribbon from Joann Fabrics. I cut the burlap in half right down the middle and using the ribbon made two large bows. PS: Ditch the red plastic bow that came with the shrub!
Then taking one half of the burlap and keeping a long piece of natural twine on hand nearby, place it underneath the container, pull all sides up around the bottom of the shrub covering the plastic container and then using your twine wrap it around and cinch the burlap around the shrub bottom. Tie it tightly and knot it a few times. You can then play around with how you want the burlap to fall and look around your container. Then taking the bow you made attach it to the front of the burlap. I used another piece of twine to secure it and knotted it in the back.
Now you have two more "dressed up" potted shrubs for your front porch! I love the classic and simple look these give to our front steps!
These are really low maintenance too and can stay outside throughout the winter and can be planted in the spring for some nice coverage in your yard. Tomorrow I will share the rest of my front porch holiday decor! Tis the season!!
